Peter Vitanov: Being East Europeans, we lost because we do not have representatives holding senior positions in Europe

04.07.2019

“The issue on the proposed package of five senior positions in Europe was not unequivocal. Many diverse opinions were heard among the socialists, and there are winners and losers,” said MEP from the BSP/PES Peter Vitanov in the morning show on bTV. According to Vitanov, the Socialist group is among the losers because they could not take advantage of the figure of Timmermans in the first place, who really made an impression during the election campaign, and secondly, of the Spitzenkandidaten process, which was important and to the benefit of EU citizens. “The European citizens also lost. We, too, lost as East Europeans because we do not have representatives among those nominated for senior positions,” added Vitanov.

“I did not like that the role of the EP was downgraded in the context of this big deal, because even the decision for the election of the President of the EP was made elsewhere. I hope this will change,” added the MEP.
